Hermosa View School
Hermosa Beach City School District's youngest students fill 20 classrooms on our beautiful campus. 405 students in D.K., Kindergarten, First and Second Grades receive instruction from an exceptional staff of 22 teachers. All classes, except one, are limited in size to 20 students. Additional assistance is also provided by the school librarian, music teacher, physical education instructor, speech therapist, resource specialist, reading specialist, school counselor and instructional assistants.

Hermosa View has been recognized twice as a California Distinguished School and two years ago was awarded a national Blue Ribbon Award. The September 2006 edition of Los Angeles Magazine names us one of 60 GREAT elementary schools and we have been recognized for two consecutive years by the Los Angeles Business Association for our exceptional academic achievement. Our API was 950 for the 2005-2006 school year. Our exceptional teachers provide a rich and differentiated curriculum to our students. Additionally, Hermosa's award winning technology director keeps us on the cutting edge of computer and technology instruction. Students enjoy the visual and performing arts. Our music program includes vocal music instruction as well as experiences using a variety of musical instruments culminating in a delightful holiday performance for parents.

After school classes are offered 5 days each week through Kids Kabaret and S. T. A. R. Programs include classes in drama, dance, science, Spanish, eco station, lego robotics, chess, woodshop and young readers club. The after school program has been a huge success.

Our Parent Volunteers are phenomenal! They donate countless hours in the classrooms and also coordinate and teach the docent run Young at Art Program, Nutrition Education Program and Garden Program. We couldn't do it without them! Our parents provide a tremendous amount of support to the educational programs at our school through various fundraisers and student activities. Please check the web page for links to PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) and HBEF (Hermosa Beach Education Foundation). You can meet other wonderful families by joining one or both of these very special organizations.

Our Community takes good care of us, too! Organizations such as Rotary, Kiwanis, Women's Club, Beach Cities Health District, HBPD, HB Firemen and the City of Hermosa Beach lend financial and educational support to our school.

If you have any questions or simply wish to tour the campus you may contact the Principal, Carol Caballero, at ccaballero@hbcsd.org

Valley School
Welcome to Hermosa Valley School, a Blue Ribbon and California Distinguished School that educates students in grades 2nd-8th. Through years of commitment to the district and school Hermosa Valley's teachers continue to offer innovative programs that enrich the academic curriculum. The entire school staff is dedicated to making your child's experience at Hermosa Valley a memorable one. Student success is an outcome of teachers, staff and parents working together!
Here are some reminders about Valley School:

1. Every Friday is SPIRIT day! Be sure to wear blue and gold or your HVS t-shirt or sweatshirt!

2. Valerie the Dolphin is our school mascot.

3. Important information is posted on our website each Wednesday; be sure to check the school's website http://hbcsd.org/valley/INDEX.HTM for important dates and events.

4. School starts promptly at 8:15 am for grades 2nd-5th and 8:30 for all middle school students.

5. Get involved in your child's education. The Hermosa Beach City School District is fortunate and privileged to have strong support from our parent community. There are many ways that you can participate: volunteer your time in the classroom, join the Parent Teacher Organization or the Hermosa Beach Education Foundation, become a docent for Young at Art, work during lunch as a nutrition docent, or volunteer in the Garden of Yum.

6. Check PowerSchool on a regular basis. This parent portal allows you to be aware of upcoming assignments, check your child's lunch balance, read the daily bulletin, and check how your child is doing in school academically.

7. Please encourage your child to walk or bike to school. If it is necessary to pick up or drop off your child, please follow these simple rules:

• Do not park on the curb; this area is for student drop off and loading only. Be courteous to other drivers
• Only park your car in a designated parking spot.
• Honor the spots designated for handicap parking
• Student safety comes first, so please do not talk on your cell phone
• Be respectful of the crossing guards and staff on duty.

On behalf of Hermosa Valley's teachers and staff, welcome to our community!
Sincerely, Sylvia Gluck, Principal
